Quick answer: 16 is the age at which a teenager can drive their own quad with us in Side. They bring a physical ID to our base and complete the supervised test drive we run before every departure - and it is the test drive, not the birthday, that has the final word. Younger teenagers and children from age 6 ride as belted passengers behind a parent instead. The Side quad safari is €25 per adult and €15 per child, about three hours with free hotel pick-up, paid on the day.
Why we ask for 16, and for ID at the base
Two conditions sit behind the handlebars of every quad in our convoy: the rider is at least 16, and has shown us a physical ID at the base. A date typed into a booking form is not enough.
Licence talk we deliberately leave out. Some 16-year-olds handle a quad better than adults with twenty years of driving behind them, and some do not. What settles the day is whether the rider is comfortable and in control after the test lap: if they are, they take their own machine; if not, they ride belted behind a parent. The supervised test drive, from a teenager's seat
For many 16-year-olds this is the first engine they have ever controlled. Everyone gets the safety briefing and a helmet, both included, then each rider takes supervised laps on open ground at our base while a guide watches: throttle, brakes, a couple of turns, and how they react the moment the machine moves under them.
A quad is a single-rider ATV: throttle on the handlebar, steered as much with body weight as with the arms, which surprises teenagers who have only ridden a bicycle. Most have it within a few laps. If yours does not, nothing awkward happens - the guide says so quietly, a parent takes the quad, and the teenager climbs on behind, belted. Settling that on flat ground is how every Side quad safari begins.

Pace and spacing with young drivers in the group
Each departure carries a maximum of 40 guests, one guide leading and one closing the convoy - the detail that matters most once 16-year-olds are riding. The lead guide sets the pace, so nobody chases the quickest rider of the day, and the rear guide stays behind the last machine: a teenager who eases off always has a guide right behind them. On dusty tracks the guides hold gaps so nobody rides blind in another machine's dust, and the convoy regroups at the mud pits and water stops.
The parent's checklist
- ID for every driver aged 16 and over - passport or national ID card, carried to the base, not left in the hotel safe.
- Clothes you do not love. Mud pits and water splashes are part of the route, not an accident.
- A change of clothes and a towel. Changing cabins and showers at the base are free.
- Closed shoes, not flip-flops.
- Goggles and a bandana if your teenager wears lenses or hates dust - sold at the base, with food, drinks and our photo and video service.
- Euros for the day. Booking online is free; the tour is paid at the base.
If your teenager is not yet 16
Two family options, neither a consolation prize. From age 6 a child rides belted behind a parent on the quad at €15. Or the family moves to a two-seat buggy at €30 per adult and €18 per child: steering wheel, roll cage, belts, two seats side by side. Be honest with them before you book
This is real off-road riding in the Taurus foothills behind Side: forest tracks, deep dust, mud pits and water-splash stops, roughly 1.5-2 hours in the saddle.
