For the Person in the Group Who Is Quietly Nervous
Most people booking an Okurcalar quad safari have never driven anything with four wheels and no roof. This page is mostly for them, because the honest answer is that the machine is the easy part and the anxiety is entirely normal.
Okurcalar sits between Side and Alanya, and this tour is our Alanya departure with a free hotel pick-up. The minibus collects you in the morning and climbs inland to the base camp in the Taurus foothills. About three hours door to door, graded easy.
The Controls Take Five Minutes
There is no clutch and there are no gears to shift. Machines of this class sold in Türkiye use a belt-driven CVT: two variable-diameter pulleys change the ratio continuously as the revs rise, so you squeeze the throttle and the machine simply goes. And the throttle is a thumb lever rather than a twist grip — a design choice made precisely because a wrist twisting over a bump could accelerate you by accident, and because it lets both hands stay properly wrapped round the bars. Steering, brake, thumb. That is the whole syllabus.
You Get a Lesson and a Practice Lap
Nobody is pointed at a trail cold. Every ride opens with a safety briefing and a short driving lesson on flat, easy ground, and the guide watches how you get on. That practice lap is not a formality — it is where the decision gets made. This is a genuine off-road activity, so ability leads: ride it comfortably and the quad is yours for the route; feel wrong about it, or have the guide judge that today is not your day at the controls, and you cover exactly the same trail from the passenger seat for the same price. Nobody is sent home and nobody is talked into anything.
What the Trail Is Actually Like
Pine forest, dust, shallow water crossings, bumpy dirt tracks and gentle climbs, in a single-file convoy behind a guide who sets the pace. There is a stop at a panoramic ridge with the Mediterranean below, and a water break with a splash fight at the end. You will finish filthy, which is the point.

Compare Before You Commit
Full detail on the departure is on the Alanya quad safari page; neighbouring resorts are covered at Avsallar. If sitting inside a roll cage sounds more your speed than sitting on top of the machine, read the buggy safari comparison, or see live dates on the ride list.
